Job summary

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is seeking a Per Diem Phlebotomy Technician to collect blood specimens from patients in accordance with established procedures, ensuring a professional, patient-centered atmosphere.

The role involves upfront specimen handling, preprocessing, interaction with hospital and laboratory staff, and adherence to safety precautions when handling biohazardous materials. Prior laboratory experience is preferred and CAP competencies are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy Technician certification preferred.
• Experience in a hospital laboratory 3–5 years preferred.
• Must demonstrate annual CAP competencies in any area that they work.

Responsibilities

• Follows established hospital and departmental precautions and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
• Obtains blood specimens from patients, maintaining a professional, customer-sensitive atmosphere.
• Register and label tubes correctly; centrifuge and aliquot specimens per policy.
• Deliver specimens to appropriate laboratory sections and resolve specimen problems with staff.
