Job summary

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to obtain blood specimens and manage upfront specimen handling in a hospital laboratory setting.

You will support workflow, interact with clients and staff, and ensure proper safety and labeling practices. The role requires high school completion and a Phlebotomy Technician credential is preferred; 3–5 years hospital lab experience is ideal, with some internship exposure acceptable.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
• Licenses and Credentials: Phlebotomy Technician (PT) [PBT(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred.
• Experience: Experience in a hospital Laboratory 3-5 years preferred; Internship or equivalent 0-1 year required.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must adhere to I C.A.R.E. Standards; annual CAP competencies in any area they work.

Responsibilities

• Verifies that correct specimen and labeling requirements are met for test orders.
• Correctly and accurately registers and labels tubes as appropriate.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to department policy.
• Sorts, stores, and delivers laboratory specimens by department and specimen requirements.
• Works with medical technologists and client services to resolve specimen problems.
• Answers telephones and provides assistance as needed.
