Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action, supporting teams, comforting pet parents, and learning in real time. You will participate in triage, treatments, and rounding, with growth opportunities toward anesthesia support and advanced care.

The role offers nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis, with competitive hourly pay and a pathway to credentialed technician status through guided training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AVMA-accredited vet tech program (plus).
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Able to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medications.
• Support in outpatient or inpatient settings and during rounds.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training.
