Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time. You'll participate in triage, treatments, and ongoing care alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

Qualifications

• Empathetic, people-centric approach to support colleagues and pet parents.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary environment.
• Basic computer skills and EMR software familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, oxygen support).
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation setups.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings and participate in rounds.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certification; pursue training pathways for advanced duties.
• Grow into roles like anesthesia support, ultrasound, catheterization.
• Comply with state laws and clinic policies.
