Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting your team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time. You’ll be there for triage, treatments, and the tail wags.

This role supports growth toward credentialed technician paths with ongoing mentorship. You’ll work in a fast-paced emergency environment, with opportunities to learn CPR and expand your responsibilities through guided training pathways, while joining

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Able to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medications.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training.
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways.
