Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action, supporting teams, comforting pet parents, and learning on the job. You will participate in triage, treatments, and the overall care pathway from day one.

You may pursue credentialed technician goals or broader veterinary interests, with opportunities for growth, learning, and development in a fast-paced ER environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of software used in veterinary practice.
• Excellent communicator with the team and pet parents.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg, with assistance up to 40 kg.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Work well in a fast-paced environment with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medications.
• Support care across outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Participate in rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training.
