Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be at the heart of the action, supporting the team, calming pet parents, and learning on the job from day one. You’ll participate in triage, treatments, and patient care alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

You’ll develop skills across anesthesia support, CPR readiness, and diagnostic procedures while working in a fast-paced hospital environment with opportunities for guided career growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• Minimum 1+ year experience as veterinary assistant, emergency or specialty is a bonus.
• Ability to use practice management software and EMR.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during every moment of care: outpatient or inpatient, exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds and stay close to the clinical picture to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support and ultrasound through training pathways.
• Adhere to state law and hospital policies.
