Job summary

Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC seeks a Surgical Coordinator to manage patient registration, scheduling, and pre-certifications for the OR and ambulatory centers. You will verify insurance benefits, discuss co-pays, and ensure accurate demographics in Cerner and HBOC systems.

You will coordinate with families and clinical teams to align schedules, obtain authorizations, and arrange equipment as needed while maintaining a patient-centered workflow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2-3 years of progressive experience in patient registration and scheduling and medical insurance verification in hospital or physician's office preferred.
• Proficiency in Cerner or similar EMR; CNHS HBOC and PPM/PSM systems; excellent verbal, interpersonal and telephone skills.
• Strong knowledge of medical insurance verification, screening, medical billing and CPT/ICD-10 coding; ability to multitask and understand medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Register and schedule patients; pre-certify for physician and facility; verify insurance eligibility; document procedures in Cerner and HBOC/EMR systems.
• Coordinate with parents and departments to schedule procedures; ensure registration and demographics are accurate; address guardianship/custody issues as needed.
• Coordinate surgical equipment needs and vendor requests for procedures.
