Job summary

Connecticut Children’s in Hartford, CT is seeking a Medical Assistant/Surgical Coordinator to support surgical scheduling, patient flow, and coordinated clinic operations.

Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager and/or RN, the role performs a variety of administrative, clinical, departmental support, and documentation duties to promote the health and comfort of CT Children’s patients and families.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent; vocational training may substitute.
• Experience: No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Surgical Scheduling: schedule surgeries, initiate booking, arrange pre-op tests, verify insurance, obtain approvals, discuss financial responsibility with families, collect payments, submit billing.
• Administrative Support: check-in/check-out, schedule appointments, answer calls, process pre-authorizations, prepare records, provide cross-coverage, maintain confidentiality.
• Clinical Support: ensure efficient patient flow, prepare treatment rooms, provide procedural support, take initial intake, perform QC of POC testing, obtain specimens and track lab results.
• Departmental Support: maintain medical records, inventory supplies, stock forms, and report equipment issues.
• Documentation: ensure legible documentation and proper data entry in records.
• Other Related Activities: travel to satellite locations if needed, support mission and policies.
