Job summary

Children’s National Hospital in Northern Virginia is seeking a Patient Registrar to schedule procedures, verify insurance, and review benefits for families. You will work with parents and departments to ensure accurate registrations and timely surgical scheduling in Cerner and related systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3 years progressive experience in patient registration and scheduling, medical insurance verification, preferably in a hospital or physician’s office.
• Must be proficient in Cerner or similar EMR and related systems.
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal, customer service and telephone skills required.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and schedule procedures with families, ensuring accurate demographics and insurance data.
• Pre-certify procedures with insurance companies and document pre-certification notes in the EMR.
• Coordinate scheduling with surgeons, parents, and other departments for timely procedures.
• Verify guardianship/custody issues and coordinate equipment needs for procedures.
• Coordinate with other departments for admissions and procedures and follow up until scheduled.
