Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to join our night-shift hospital team. You will monitor high-risk patients, support nursing staff, and assist in daily patient care activities within a dynamic emergency department and related units.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and current Basic Life Support certification. Strong communication, teamwork, and basic computer skills are essential in this fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
• Strong interpersonal skills to gather information and support teamwork.
• Proficiency with basic computer systems and hospital software.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to nursing staff about patient observations and changes.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist in ensuring a safe environment and de-escalate situations as needed.
• Assist patients with daily activities, meals, and nourishment.
• Help move, lift, position, and transport patients using proper body mechanics.
• Conduct patient safety checks and follow restraints policy when applicable.
• Record vital signs, height and weight, and assist with lab specimen collection if needed.
• Assist with treatments and setup of equipment and supplies; provide emotional support to patients.
