Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to join the Emergency Department team. The role supports licensed clinicians, assists with patient care, vitals, phlebotomy in certain locations, EKG, and point-of-care testing.

The PCT III may work across multiple specialty areas including telemetry, unit secretary duties, and remote video monitoring. Position requires a high school diploma or GED and Current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrated competency in PCT II level or 1 year of acute care/hospital experience or 1 year of EMT Paramedic experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly and concisely.
• Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Maintains constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Participates in creating a safe environment and uses de-escalation techniques; assists with restraints when trained.
• Assists patients with daily living activities and mobility.
• Supports safe patient handling and transport using proper body mechanics.
• Performs patient safety checks and follows Restraint Policy when applicable.
• Records vital signs and measurements, supports specimen collection and lab transport.
• Assists with treatments and procedures by preparing patient and equipment.
• Observes and documents intake/output and nutrition; supports tube feeding where needed.
• Handles telephones and intra-department communications; relays messages.
• Replenishes supplies and stays updated with unit changes.
