Job summary

DSHS is seeking a Fiscal Specialist 1 to support the payroll office at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake. This role emphasizes accurate timekeeping, data entry in the statewide HRMS, and strict adherence to state rules and agency policy.

You will review payroll changes, calculate hours and leave, audit balances, and work with managers to resolve time/attendance issues while ensuring timely payroll processing and reporting.

Qualifications

• Three years of fiscal record-keeping experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience totaling three or more years.

Responsibilities

• Enter time and attendance records for staff into HRMS daily.
• Review, post, and check payroll changes from timesheets and leave requests.
• Calculate hours, accruals, overtime, and deductions for each pay period.
• Audit leave balances and reconcile payroll records for accuracy.
• Apply union contracts, agency policy, and state/federal rules as needed.
• Answer staff questions about leave, balances, and eligibility for programs.
• Enter eligible leave periods for FMLA, PFML, and Shared Leave.
• Ensure paychecks are correct and funds are allocated from the right accounts.
• File payroll records and prepare payroll reports when requested.
