Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred or may be required based on state and laboratory guidelines.
• Phlebotomist Certification preferred; required in Louisiana.
• At least 1 year of prior job-related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers appropriately and treats all customers with courtesy.
• Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
• Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and calmly to reduce patient anxiety.
• Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
• Completes requisitions accurately in PathConnect and/or other Pathgroup computer applications.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer; maintains high accuracy; confirms handwritten orders and diagnoses.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
• Packages specimens for transport; stores samples at required temperatures; follows protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
• Maintains required records and documentation; daily PSC/IOPST logs; assists with compiling monthly statistics and data.
• Performs basic clerical duties (filing, faxing, mail) and electronic data entry.
• Approves time in attendance software by noon Monday after pay period end; submits expense and travel logs as directed.
• Demonstrates organizational commitment; adheres to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies.
• Uses time appropriately and manages fluctuating patient flow.
• Displays courteous, professional behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers; communicates to promote harmony.
• Answers telephone in a friendly, site-relevant manner with proper self-identification.
• Performs duties independently; communicates issues to supervisor or group leader for resolution.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort within the department and company.
• Ensures facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair; reports required repairs.
• Assists with periodic inventory counts; reports shortages to supervisor.
• Uses proper PPE; adheres to safety and lab procedures and protects patient information.
• Aligns all duties with the industry’s security and regulatory guidelines to protect data and privacy policies.
• Familiar with and abides by Corporate Compliance Program and Corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
