Job summary

PathGroup is seeking a Patient Services Technician to perform daily patient service activities in the Patient Services Center (PSC) or as an In-office PST, under the direction of the area supervisor.

The role involves interacting with clients, patients and PathGroup personnel in a professional manner and handling forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing according to established practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner.
• Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
• Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients clearly and calmly.
• Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue following laws and policies.
• Completes requisitions in PathConnect and other PathGroup applications.
• Enters patient and billing information into computer with high accuracy.
• Matches requisition forms to tubes, labels, centrifuges, and processes specimens as required.
• Packages specimens for transport and stores samples according to required temperature.
• Maintains records and logs for PSC/IOPST, assists with monthly statistics.
• Performs basic clerical duties and electronic data entry.
• Approves time in attendance software and submits travel logs.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of facilities and PPE usage.
• Communicates issues to supervisors and contributes to a positive work climate.
• Assists with inventory and reports shortages.
• Adheres to lab safety procedures and confidentiality policies.
• Works with other departments as needed.
