Job summary

Scripps Health is seeking a Patient Service Representative in the Physical Therapy department at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego. The role supports front-line registration, scheduling, insurance verification and check-out processes to ensure a positive patient experience.

You will handle demographic and insurance information, collect payments, verify referrals, and coordinate with care teams, all while delivering courteous service in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in computer applications and accurate monetary handling.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical abilities with problem-solving mindset.
• Preferred one year in customer service or healthcare/medical office environment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance and billing guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Interacting with patients and providers to gather information for accurate registration.
• Assigning Medical Record Number, appointment scheduling, payment collection and check-out.
• Responding to customer billing and payment inquiries.
• Managing check in/out processes, demographic/insurance verification and end-of-day reporting.
• Scheduling and confirming appointments and entering insurance details.
• Initiating and validating referrals/authorizations.
• Providing proactive customer service and escalating to leadership when needed.
