Job summary

Baton Rouge Health District is seeking a Patient Scheduler to coordinate the scheduling workflow across operating rooms, imaging, and patient admissions. You will ensure accurate scheduling, verify orders and patient data, and support smooth patient flow within the hospital.

The role emphasizes customer service, attention to detail, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to optimize patient satisfaction and departmental efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in patient access or scheduling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Posts surgery cases following established procedures, prepares surgery schedule, resolves scheduling conflicts, and refers difficult requests to supervision.
• Notifies departments of Operating Room schedule changes to ensure efficient hospital operation.
• Notifies nursing units of pre-medications and coordinates patient transfers to the OR Suite.
• Obtains lab results, radiology forms, and medications necessary for admission to the OR.
• Verifies and reports variances in physician orders and procedure information.
• Posts imaging cases and prepares imaging schedule, resolving conflicts and notifying senior technologist as needed.
• Verifies patient information and assigns health plan and updates insurance data in the system.
• Provides customer service and coordinates patient scheduling to optimize flow and productivity.
• Answers calls, prioritizes them, and directs to appropriate staff.
• Acts as liaison between departments, physicians, and patients to meet patient needs.
• Posts tests/procedures and schedules changes; notifies relevant departments for efficiency.
• Communicates with insurers and physicians to obtain verification of benefits and certifications.
• Follows hospital policies, safety, QA, and infection control standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
