Job summary

UCSF Benioff Children’s Physicians is seeking a Referral Coordinator to provide administrative support for referrals, authorizations, scheduling, and patient engagement in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The role acts as the primary contact for external physicians and the public, ensuring accurate communication, timely authorizations, and smooth patient flow across registration, scheduling, and billing processes.

Qualifications

• Experience using EHR systems and patient scheduling workflows.
• Strong customer service and communication with patients and physicians.
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Epic/Right-Fax for document handling.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate internal and outgoing referrals for patients.
• Obtain necessary authorizations per specialty and insurance.
• Schedule and confirm appointments; monitor capacity.
• Assist in registration, check-in/out, and patient information updates.
• Triage referral and authorization queries.
• Support PSR activities and staff learning.
• Distribute paperwork and lab results into patient charts.
