Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Financial Counselor at our Northampton site to support patient financial responsibilities and options. The role entails guiding patients through costs, payment plans, and available financial assistance programs, ensuring accurate data entry and necessary authorizations are obtained.

The ideal candidate will have 1+ year of medical office and financial counseling experience, excellent communication and customer service skills, and proficiency with Microsoft

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Associate's Degree Financial Management preferred.
• 1+ years of medical office experience preferred.
• 1+ years of financial counseling preferred.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong communication skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9 and CPT codes.

Responsibilities

• Counsel patients or parties responsible for payment and educate them on financial obligations.
• Assist with obtaining pre-certifications or authorizations as needed and help with financing or third-party applications.
• Provide information on costs, payment methods and options for financial assistance.
• Ensure accurate collection of insurance, demographic, and eligibility information in the system.
• Review services for diagnosis and verify insurance coverage; obtain necessary authorizations.
• Maintain empathy and professionalism in registration interviews and when providing regulatory information.
