Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Ability to analyze relationships with patients, physicians, and staff and multitask.
  • Must adhere to policies and maintain professional, service-oriented standards.
  • Basic grammar and math knowledge expected through high school; postsecondary education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately complete patient accounts per departmental protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure insurance requirements are met prior to patient arrival and inform patients of financial liability.
  • Arrange payment options with patients and screen for government funding sources.
  • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits for timely service.
  • Obtain authorizations based on insurance plans and guidelines.
  • Document billing activities and assist with inquiries and complaints.
  • Explain bills and provide financial counseling as needed.
  • Enter and update referrals and communicate with insurers to resolve coverage issues.
