Job summary

Duke University Health System's PRMO seeks a Financial Care Counselor to accurately complete patient accounts, confirm insurance coverage, and inform patients of their financial responsibilities before services.

The role includes analyzing coverage, obtaining authorizations, guiding patients through payment options, and applying policy to ensure timely billing while delivering compassionate support to patients and families.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze relationships between patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
• Must be able to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships.
• Must understand and comply with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance coverage and benefits for service to ensure timely processing.
• Obtain authorizations based on insurance plan contracts and guidelines.
• Document billing system and explain bills to patients.
• Explain policies and departmental coverage as requested.
• Resolve insurance claim denials and implement appropriate collection activities.
• Guide patients in payment options and financial counseling referrals.
