Job summary

Damien Center in Indianapolis is seeking a Patient Financial Counselor in our Patient Access Services to register patients, assess financial needs, and connect uninsured patients with appropriate health coverage programs. The role emphasizes education on insurance options and navigating the center’s financial assistance programs.

The successful candidate will manage billing questions, verify demographics, and maintain patient account documentation while supporting front-end revenue cycle

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
• Must have 1-4 years’ experience in registration and financial counseling.
• Experience applying for Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace, and/or RWHAP programs.
• Indiana Navigator license and CAC required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and verify demographic data; ensure accurate benefits and COB updates.
• Assist uninsured/underinsured patients by applying for public programs.
• Follow up with state on eligibility; request additional information as needed.
• Explain affordability programs, qualified health plans, and insurance rights.
• Educate patients about Sliding Fee Scale and Financial Hardship Program.
• Document patient interactions and maintain queues/reports.
