Job summary

Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis seeks a Financial Counselor to assist customers with information needed to secure verifications from Work One, banks, and insurers, and to explain payer programs and hospital financial assistance.

You will screen and interview customers, complete documentation in management systems, and maintain HIPAA-compliant confidentiality while coordinating with state and county programs.

Qualifications

• Accredited associate or bachelor’s degree; OR two years in financial counseling, insurance verification, credit, collection and billing, preferably in a hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus; Indiana Navigators Certification within 45 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Accept daily assigned customer referrals in management systems to determine customers to be screened/interviewed.
• Assist walk-in customers as they present.
• Explain payer programs and benefits including HIP, Medicaid, Indiana programs, Health Insurance Marketplace, COBRA, and hospital Financial Assistance.
• Interview/screen customers for potential payer programs.
• Complete timely submission of documentation and applications in designated systems.
• Document and update application status in systems on a regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information in HIPAA compliance.
• Contact patients by phone, mail, or home visit to secure necessary documentation.
• Monitor progress of applications to ensure timely processing.
• Attend interviews with State/County payer representatives as needed.
• Update eligibility determinations in systems and EMR accounts.
• Mentor peers and meet productivity and quality requirements.
