Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Telephone Operator to handle incoming calls from patients, visitors, clinic staff, and the public. The role requires navigating multiple systems, maintaining courtesy, and ensuring accurate logging of urgent calls.

Supports physician on-call updates and directory maintenance, with flexibility for shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Nonexempt, full-time position in Phoenix, AZ.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of customer service/hospitality/telephone operator experience, including 1+ year of multi-line telephone work.
• Experience with various computer systems and keyboarding skills.
• Clear spoken and written English; understandable speech across callers, including non-English speakers with translation resources.
• Ability to handle calls from diverse callers and maintain composure during emergencies.
• Familiarity with Code Calls, Emergency Preparedness, and medical terminology preferred.
• Demonstrated service excellence with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Process all incoming calls from Mayo Clinic patients, visitors, and staff.
• Maintain courteous, professional communication and handle high call volumes.
• Navigate multiple electronic applications and devices (e.g., Infinity Telephone Agent, TOD, EHR).
• Edit and update the employee directory and provider schedules as needed.
• Manage on-call physician schedules and stroke/emergency paging coordination.
• Record emergent patient calls, after-hours communications, and code calls accurately.
