Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a patient care assistant (CNA) to support direct and indirect patient care during night shifts. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting with daily living activities, vital signs, and patient comfort.

The role emphasizes safe patient handling, timely communication with the nursing team, and collaboration to maintain a clean and safe care environment. Certification in BLS or HeartSaver within 30 days is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort under RN direction.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and bed-making.
• Safely transport patients to tests and procedures and assist with discharge.
• Perform routine phlebotomy and glucose monitoring per departmental policy.
• Record vital signs and intake/output data as directed by nursing staff.
• Provide respiratory support equipment setup and encourage incentive spirometry.
