Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a patient care assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision. Responsibilities include basic nursing tasks, ADLs, vital signs, phlebotomy, and patient transport in a 24-hour weekly schedule.

The role supports subacute and general care units, with emphasis on safety, infection control, and communication with the care team. Night shifts are required in Morgantown, WV.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assists all assigned patients with activities of daily living according to need in a timely manner including making all assigned beds.
• Safely transports patients to tests, procedures, and discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services and glucose monitoring per policy.
• Obtains and records vital signs and inputs.
• Provides respiratory support and uses oxygen equipment as needed.
• Communicates nutrition concerns to RN and assists with diet changes.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to prevent infections.
• Assists in routine unit operations and handles calls and errands.
