Job summary

Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago, IL, is seeking staff for float staffing during night shifts (PRN). The role focuses on compassionate patient care, assistance with daily living activities, and accurate health documentation, under supervision.

Ideal candidates bring BLS and applicable Illinois credentials (EMT/LPN/Nurse Aide), or nursing student status with one completed semester of medical-surgical nursing.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire; AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• EMT, LVN/LPN or Nurse Aide credentials from Illinois prior to hire date.
• Nursing student who has completed one semester of medical-surgical nursing acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate clinical and supportive patient care under supervision.
• Assist patients with daily living activities, positioning and mobility.
• Observe and report changes in health to ensure rapid care adjustments and accurate documentation.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and proper infection control in patient rooms and around equipment.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Deliver compassionate clinical and supportive patient care under supervision to enhance comfort, dignity and overall well-being.
• Assist patients with daily living activities, positioning and mobility to encourage healing and maintain personal safety.
• Observe and report key updates in physical, mental or emotional health to ensure rapid care adjustments and precise documentation.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized environment across patient rooms and medical equipment to support optimal clinical outcomes.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

One Or More Of The Following

• Emergency Medical Tech credentialed from the Illinois Board Of Division of Emergency Medical Services and Highway Safety obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Intermediate or Advanced also acceptable.
• Practical/Vocational Nurse credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Nurse Aide credentialed from the Illinois Department of Public Health obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Nursing student who has completed on semester of medical surgical nursing is also acceptable.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable

Additional Preferences

• 1 year of hospital experience is strongly preferred.
