Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas in Nashville, TN seeks a Patient Care Technician to join the Float Pool. The role involves direct patient care, vital signs, and support across patient rounds and daily activities.

The position requires BLS within 30 days of hire and a preference for Nurse Aide certification, with education or experience substitutions allowed as applicable. The role is based in Nashville and Murfreesboro campuses, with day shifts and PRN coverage to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider required within 30 days of hire; Nurse Aide preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent or 1 year of related experience.
• Professional licensure/certification can substitute education/experience where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and records vital signs and reports abnormal findings promptly.
• Monitors intake and output to support safe patient care.
• Performs blood draws following proper phlebotomy techniques.
• Provides direct patient care and assists with activities of daily living.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Obtains and records vital signs, accurately charting patient data and promptly reporting abnormal findings.
• Monitors and documents fluid intake and output, supporting safe patient care and clinical decision-making.
• Performs blood draws as trained, following proper phlebotomy techniques and safety protocols.
• Provides direct patient care, including rounding with patients and assisting with activities of daily living to support comfort and mobility.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Nurse Aide preferred.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Additional Preferences

• 12+ months of direct care experience as a Patient Care Technician in a hospital setting.
