Job description

General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Department (PCT ED) to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. As a PCT ED, you will be part of the patient-centered care team providing direct care activities under supervision, assisting with procedures, tests, and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Your responsibilities include specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, and documentation.

Primary Duties
  1. Provide direct patient care under supervision, assisting with ADLs, personal hygiene, and procedures such as irrigation, nourishment, bandaging, immobilization, and fitting mobility aids. Perform specimen collection, venipuncture, EKGs, IV insertions, and manage IV sites and oxygen equipment.
  2. Assist in measuring and documenting vital signs, height, weight, and other pertinent data. Perform treatments like Foley and NG tube insertions/removals, wound care, patient positioning, postmortem care, and maintenance of drainage and oxygen equipment.
  3. Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity. Observe patients, apply restraints safely, and prepare patients for examinations. Assist providers and nurses during procedures, report patient condition changes, ensure proper shift handoffs, and participate in CPR when needed.
  4. Participate in patient and family teaching, respond to questions, and assist with patient transport and errands such as delivering specimens and supplies.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient environments, assist with environmental services, restock supplies, and ensure orderliness in work areas.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program
  • 1-2 years experience as a CNA
  • CNA certification in Maryland
  • BLS certification
  • Experience as a care technician, EMT, or paramedic (preferred)
  • Experience in acute or long-term care (preferred)
  • Student nurse in junior or senior year (preferred)
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (preferred)

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
