General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Franklin Square Hospital. The ideal candidate will have basic math knowledge and strong verbal/written communication skills to serve as a Patient Care Technician in our Emergency Department (ED).

This person will function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in the emergency department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical providers. They will assist patients with acute, non-acute, and rapidly changing conditions and needs, supporting nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests, and performing activities of daily living (ADLs), specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, and documentation.

Primary Duties:

• Provide direct patient care activities under supervision, assisting with ADLs, personal hygiene, and applying medical devices.
• Collect specimens, perform venipuncture, obtain EKGs, insert and manage IVs, and assist with vital signs and other patient data recording.
• Perform routine treatments such as Foley and nasogastric tube insertion/removal, wound care, turning, postmortem care, and maintaining oxygen and traction equipment.
• Maintain patient comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity. Observe patients, assist with restraints, prepare patients for provider visits, and participate in patient/family education.
• Ensure a safe and clean environment, manage linen and supplies, transport patients, and complete errands like specimen delivery.

Qualifications:

• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from the relevant district.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 1-2 years of experience as a CNA, or experience as a care technician, EMT, or paramedic is preferred.
• Experience in acute care, long-term care, or similar settings is preferred.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) is preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
