General Summary Of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Franklin Square Hospital! The ideal candidate will have basic math knowledge and verbal/written communication skills to serve as a Patient Care Technician in our Emergency Department (ED).

This person will function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in the emergency department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical providers to patients with acute, non-acute, and/or rapidly changing conditions and needs. Assists nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests, and with patients' activities of daily living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record.

Primary Duties

1. Provides direct patient care activities under supervision, assisting with ADLs, personal hygiene, and procedures like eye and ear irrigation, applying bandages, splints, and immobilization devices, and fitting patients for mobility aids.
2. Collects specimens, performs venipuncture/phlebotomy, obtains EKGs, inserts and manages IVs, and assists in vital signs measurement and documentation.
3. Performs treatments such as Foley catheter and NG tube insertion/removal, wound care, turning and positioning, postmortem care, and maintenance of medical equipment.
4. Maintains patient comfort, privacy, and dignity; observes patients, reports changes, assists with CPR, and participates in patient/family education.
5. Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the patient environment, manages supplies, transports patients, and completes errands like delivering specimens.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant from the relevant district.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• 1-2 years' experience as a CNA; experience as a care technician, EMT, or paramedic preferred.
• General healthcare experience in acute or long-term care preferred.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification preferred.

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
