MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Franklin Square Hospital! The ideal candidate will have basic math knowledge and verbal/written communication skills to serve as a Patient Care Technician in our Emergency Department (ED).
This person will function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in the emergency department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical providers to patients with acute, non-acute, and/or rapidly changing conditions and needs. Assists nursing and medical staff with procedures and/or tests and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record.
Provides direct patient care activities under supervision, assisting with ADLs, personal hygiene, and performing treatments like eye and ear irrigation, applying dressings, and fitting patients for mobility aids.
Collects specimens, performs venipuncture/phlebotomy, obtains EKGs, inserts and manages IVs, and assists in vital signs and other assessments, documenting all in the health record.
Performs routine sterile and non-sterile treatments such as Foley catheter insertion/removal, NG tube management, wound care, turning and positioning, and care of oxygen and traction devices.
Maintains patient comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity. Performs observation duties, assists with CPR, and participates in patient/family teaching. Reports concerns and changes in patient conditions to the care team.
Ensures a safe environment by maintaining cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of patient and utility areas. Transports patients and completes errands like specimen delivery.
Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
High School Diploma or GED.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from the relevant district.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
1-2 years' experience as a CNA.
Experience as a care technician, emergency medical technician, or paramedic is preferred.
General healthcare experience in acute, long-term, or other settings is preferred.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification is preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
