Job Summary

Working in our Float Pool at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center (TMC) means you will provide coverage for any of our adult inpatient units. This role is Full Time, Day shift, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., 36 hours/week. Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of acute care experience.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs). The PCT II provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and activity, practicing patient and family-centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Patient Care Technician) or similar role, preferably in an acute care setting, required.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool, validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse, including vital signs, monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, charting, and other ADLs.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation, reporting any unusual findings to the nurse.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment, demonstrating safe work practices and following safety rules.
• Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed within the role's scope.
• Assist in orienting new employees as appropriate.
• Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within budget and time management constraints.
• Support professional growth through mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
• Create compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
