UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring Patient Care Technician Behavioral Health (BH) Fellows to support our Children & Adolescents II unit!

For more than 70 years, UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital has been a national leader in the treatment of mental health and addictive disorders throughout the lifespan. In conjunction with the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, we continue to strive to be one of the nation’s foremost academic-based psychiatric care facilities and remain dedicated to providing professionals with state-of-the-art training and assistance.


The incumbent will work rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Patient Care Technician BH Fellow role is a valued step in the UPMC Patient Support Career Ladder. The title and starting pay rate may vary based on years of experience (Patient Care Technician level candidates will be considered for this role, minimum pay rate is $18.80)



Responsibilities:

  1. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, and supports workplace safety. Maintains productive relationships and demonstrates accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment.
  2. Performs patient observations, crisis interventions, and safety rounds. Uses least restrictive techniques and reports equipment malfunctions. Provides direct patient care, including daily living activities and maintaining a safe environment.
  3. Receives feedback constructively, identifies learning needs, and takes action to improve skills. Participates in self-review and seeks assistance in planning activities.
  4. Performs nursing assistant duties such as ADLs, point-of-care testing, vital signs, and specimen collection. Documents in medical records, complies with safety policies, and responds to emergencies. Provides companionship and supervision to patients as needed.
