GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The incumbent is expected to perform basic nursing procedures related to patient care and comfort in stable conditions, with knowledge of patient needs in the assigned area. Additionally, they assist the RN in caring for acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and maintain objectivity during patient care. They must adhere to hospital policies and procedures, respond appropriately in emergencies, maintain the patient environment, and document care accurately in the electronic medical record. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, receiving specific work assignments from the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, and demonstrates effective time management. They also perform duties related to patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide and document direct patient care activities such as vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, I&O, assistance with exams, treatments, and procedures. (30%)
2. Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives, including bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, safety protocols, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
3. Accurately document patient data and report any changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
4. Assist with unit activities like supply stocking and equipment cleaning. (20%)
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to attend 2 weeks of training with limited or no experience
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills
• CPR certification (American Heart Association)
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance

Preferred

• Recent acute care experience within last 3 years
• Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed

Casual hours:

Weekly hours are 4 hours – Rotational. Flexibility to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends is required.
