Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a patient care assistant to join the care team under RN supervision. You will perform direct patient care activities, assist with ADLs, and support procedures and tests across units.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, phlebotomy, EKGs, IV placement and monitoring, vital signs, monitoring intake and output, and maintaining patient comfort, privacy, and safety while documenting in the health record. CPR readiness is required.

Qualifications

• Must have CNA certification or EMT/Paramedic experience per qualifications.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPR certification within 90 days.
• Nursing student with clinical rotation or RN program coursework may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests.
• Support ADLs and patient care activities.
• Collect specimens, venipuncture, EKGs, IV care.
• Document vitals, I&O, and health record entries.
• Maintain patient comfort, privacy and safety.
• Transport patients and assist with discharges and appointments.
• Attend rounds and ensure smooth handoffs between shifts.
• Keep patient rooms clean, stocked and organized.
