Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel to support hospital nursing units. The role involves assisting with direct patient care, ADLs, and documentation under supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities include vital signs, specimen transport, basic phlebotomy where allowed, mobility assistance, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. Strong communication and multitasking are essential for this fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Prior patient care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care under RN supervision.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and bed-making.
• Safely transport patients to tests, procedures, and discharge areas.
• Transport specimens and items within the facility.
• Perform glucose monitoring, urine/stool testing, and maintain QC logs where allowed.
• Perform routine phlebotomy as assigned by management.
• Record vital signs, intake/output, weights, and girths per policy.
• Provide respiratory support and oxygen setup as needed.
• Communicate patient concerns to the RN immediately.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist with procedures.
• Assist with basic rehab/therapy activities as directed.
• Discuss nutrition issues with RN and document accordingly.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and proper infection control.
• Report equipment repairs and participate in routine unit operations.
• Answer phones and relay messages promptly.
