Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a dedicated Unlicensed Assistive Personnel to assist with direct patient care and activities of daily living under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role involves transporting patients, supporting respiratory care, and maintaining a clean, safe health care environment.

Responsibilities include helping with examinations, basic rehab activities, monitoring vitals, and effectively communicating with the nursing team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care with basic physical care as directed by a Registered Nurse.
• Assists assigned patients with activities of daily living and bed-making.
• Transports patients and escorts for tests, procedures, and discharge.
• Transports specimens and items within the facility.
• Performs routine glucose monitoring, urine/stool testing, and logs results per policy.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services where allowed.
• Takes vital signs and records temperature, pulse, respiration, BP, intake/output, weights.
• Provides respiratory support by setting up oxygen equipment.
• Communicates patient concerns to the RN immediately.
• Prepares patients for examinations and assists with procedures.
• Assists with rehab/Physical Therapy activities (ROM, ambulation).
• Maintains a clean, safe environment and reports equipment issues.
• Answers phones and relays messages promptly.
• Performs other unit operations as directed to ensure smooth functioning.
