Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking an unlicensed assistive personnel to support nursing staff in a patient-centered care environment. The role focuses on basic care, vital signs, and safe transport of patients and specimens under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, preparing patients for tests, and contributing to rehabilitation activities. Rotating 12-hour shifts across days, nights, weekends and holidays are standard.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living and bed making.
• Transport patients and specimens safely per policy and escorts for discharge.
• Perform routine phlebotomy excluding line draws as directed by management.
• Record vital signs and intake/output per policy.
• Provide respiratory support and oxygen administration setup.
• Observe and report patient concerns to a registered nurse immediately.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist with procedures.
• Assist with basic rehab/physical therapy activities.
• Communicate nutrition concerns to RN and document.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
