Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong written and verbal communication, typing, general clerical skills and excellent telephone skills.
• Medical terminology knowledge and one year medical office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cooperate in cross training to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
• May travel between departments and facilities to assist in coverage as required.
• Assist in training Patient Care Service staff (e.g. classroom, on-the-job settings).
• Follow and manage each provider's schedule and update calendars in computer.
• Schedule new and established patients according to clinic guidelines and policies.
• Verify and update patient information according to registration criteria; update insurance data.
• Collect payments and inform patients of payment responsibility; balance and deposit daily.
• Make and cancel return appointments; manage patient check-ins.
• Take messages for staff and providers; route messages per procedure.
• Prepare charts according to office procedure.
• Maintain a pleasant, patient-oriented atmosphere with professional appearance.
• Duties may vary due to assignment (check-in or appointment scheduling).
• File daily in medical records.
• Maintain office equipment (fax, copier, printer).
• Cooperate in cross-training others to ensure coverage.
