Job summary

North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, AL is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) for the Med Surg unit on night shift. The schedule features 3 x 12-hour shifts (6:45pm–7:15am) and every other weekend with self-scheduling and rotating holidays.

The unit provides broad exposure to vascular, dialysis, chemotherapy and hospice care, enabling the development of strong clinical skills in collaboration with RNs and physicians.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• PCA/DCA, SRNA, or EMT experience preferred but not required.
• Current BLS certification (can be obtained after hire).
• Handle with Care preferred.
• Looking for candidates eager to learn and work in a critical care environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.

Our Medical-Surgical Unit delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care to a diverse population, including vascular, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, chemotherapy, and GIP hospice patients. This dynamic unit provides exposure to a wide range of medical conditions and treatments, offering staff the opportunity to develop broad clinical skills while working collaboratively to provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality care.
