Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Assistant to provide continuous observation and one-on-one care for a group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and BLS certification, with 1 year of relevant experience preferred. The position is full-time, onsite with shift coverage including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Minimum one year of relevant patient care experience preferred.
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR software preferred.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications required.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients.
• Provide evidence-based de-escalation interventions.
• Maintain a safe environment for self, patients and others.
• Remain alert and attentive at all times to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient.
• Provide direct patient care such as vital signs and transporting patients to other departments as delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Stock linens and supplies.
• Document observations, interventions, and any pertinent information accurately and in a timely manner within EPIC.
• Prioritize and execute task for the assigned patients in a timely and efficient manner.
• Alert nursing staff promptly to any signs of distress, discomfort, or changes in the patient's condition.
• Maintain a calm and professional presence for the patient and their family members.
• Follow all hospital or facility protocols and procedures related to patient observation and safety.
• Other duties as assigned.
