Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant (24 hours per week) to provide clinical and administrative support under the supervision of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse. This onsite role requires compassion, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy pediatric setting.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, taking vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting in EPIC, and coordinating scheduling and follow-up care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program, EMT or Paramedic program required.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• No experience required for the role.
• No experience supervising is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by Providers.
• Collects data contributing to assessment and discharge plans under direction of the Licensed Nurse.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
• Communicates patient findings to Providers and/or Licensed Nurse using proper documentation.
• Documents care accurately within EPIC system.
• Schedules appointments and handles check-in tasks as needed.
• Performs department-specific duties such as POCT and screenings.
• Maintains examination rooms and supports clinical operations.
