Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Part-Time Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse. The role is onsite, 32 hours weekly, with daytime school-year hours.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, taking vitals, assisting with phlebotomy and medications, documenting care, and supporting office tasks. BLS, MA credentialing, and healthcare experience expectations are noted, with EPIC/Office

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Certificate Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required; prior credit may be given for experience if rules apply.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families to provide care support.
• Prepares patients for examination; records vitals; assists with phlebotomy and medications as directed.
• Collects data for assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
• Collects and processes laboratory specimens per policy.
• Communicates findings to Providers or Nurses using proper documentation.
• Documents care accurately in the school medical record.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties such as POCT and screenings.
• Handles routine office duties (faxing, copying, filing) as needed.
• Maintains examination rooms (cleaning, stocking).
• Develops positive relationships with patients, families, and school staff.
• Completes all assignments during scheduled hours.
• Follows safety policies to ensure a safe environment for patients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
