Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a patient access billing specialist to manage collections and patient inquiries. The role involves applying policies, counseling patients on balances and insurance options, and arranging payment plans.

Collaboration with physicians and care staff is essential to resolve issues and secure timely payments. The position requires knowledge of billing systems, high school education, and 2–3 years of collections experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of high school.
• Two to three years customer service and/or collections experience.
• Knowledge of reimbursement practices for commercial and government payers is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Follow Mercyhealth financial policies and guidelines.
• Counsel patients on billing concerns, balances, service costs, and insurance resources.
• Establish payment plans and follow up on arrangements.
• Communicate with care teams and departments on billing and insurance issues.
• Research denied claims and assist with refunds and adjustments.
• Respond to patient inquiries via multiple channels.
