Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis seeks a Patient Billing Services Representative II to be the face of our Orthopedic Surgery billing team. You will greet patients, verify insurance, check in/out, and ensure accurate registration in EPIC while delivering compassionate care.

This role requires HIPAA compliance, attention to detail, and teamwork to keep clinics running smoothly. Local travel to cover other Orthopedic locations may be required; strong communication and billing knowledge are

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3 years experience in billing systems, third-party claims, or medical office setting is preferred.
• Basic Life Support certifications may be required per policy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional customer service with a patient-centered attitude.
• Check in/check out scheduled patients.
• Ensure registration is accurate.
• Update and verify patient insurance, referrals and demographic information in EPIC as needed.
• Schedule walk-in and same-day appointments.
• Collect copayments, DME payments, Self-pay/Pre-pay and Past Due balances.
• Ensure good faith estimates are entered for self-pay patients in compliance with the No Surprises Act.
• Balance cash drawer and prepare daily deposit.
• Complete required HIPAA training.
• Maintain familiarity with insurance companies and their requirements.
• Collaborate with the Pre-Arrival team to ensure insurance/referral information is obtained and accurate.
• Prepare all scheduled appointments for upcoming clinic days.
