St. Tammany Health System is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to handle registration, check-in/check-out, insurance verification, and scheduling. The role requires handling confidential information per HIPAA and supporting patient throughput and revenue growth.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, experience in medical office settings, and familiarity with payer processes and hospital HIS systems. Some college and CHAA certification are advantageous.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• At least 1 year of customer service in a medical/office setting including scheduling, admitting, or financial counseling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment; CPT/ICD-10 knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance coverage and benefits; initiate authorizations.
• Complete registration pathways in HIS systems and schedule appointments.
• Determine third-party payer liability for billing; check medical necessity.
• Assist in training Patient Access Representatives and Specialists.
