Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast is seeking a Part-Time Patient Access Representative to join our welcoming front desk team in Cape Girardeau, MO. You will help patients from arrival through payment, including scheduling, registration, and insurance verification, with accuracy and empathy.

The role requires 1–3 years of clerical and customer service experience, a high school diploma, and familiarity with medical terminology. Benefits and flexible shifts support a patient-centered culture.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, excellent telephone etiquette required.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and insurance companies.
• Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
• Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines and perform all daily assignments with a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledgeable and experienced with various computer systems; ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard.
• Ability to discuss patient financial responsibility, outstanding balances, payment options, and financial assistance resources with confidence, professionalism, empathy, and accountability.
• Ability to respond appropriately to patient questions or concerns, explain available financial resources, and complete required referrals.
• Ability to consistently follow and document established patient financial engagement and collection workflows.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the patient's entrance into Mercy facilities, including scheduling and registration.
• Verify benefits, pre-certification and financial clearance.
• Communicate applicable financial responsibility and payment options to patients.
• Collect and document patient financial information accurately.
• Maintain knowledge of insurance processes and Mercy financial policies.
