Job summary

Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital Appleton, WI is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department. You will greet patients, handle registration, verify demographics and insurance, collect payments, and ensure a smooth start to care.

This role requires calm, patient-centered service in a busy environment and the ability to navigate several computer systems. Training is provided; prior healthcare experience is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced hospital environment.

• Comfort learning and working across multiple computer systems.
• Flexibility to work the 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM shift with rotating weekends.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and families and provide compassionate customer service.
• Complete patient registration and check-in accurately and efficiently.
• Gather and verify demographic, insurance, and medical information.
• Navigate multiple computer systems while maintaining accuracy.
• Review insurance information and collect co-pays or patient payments when applicable.
• Answer patient questions with confidence, clarity, and compassion.
• Support patients who may be ill, anxious, or overwhelmed.
• Work closely with nurses, physicians, and clinical teams to support smooth patient flow.
• Help minimize registration delays in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
