Mercyhealth in Wisconsin seeks an ER/Registration Associate responsible for greeting patients, collecting demographics, insurance info, and guiding visitors through the facility. You will process registrations, verify information, and entry data into EPIC accurately to keep patient flow smooth.

Qualifications

• Graduate of high school or equivalent preferred
• One to two years customer service experience required
• Knowledge of third-party payors preferred
• Medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

• Engages in positive interactions; demonstrate friendliness by smiling and eye contact when greeting patients, visitors and customers.
• Provides shadowing and training to new partners.
• Uses good judgment in highly emotional and demanding situations.
• Arrives patient to the ER and Urgent Care.
• ISigns in or checking in hospital outpatient visits.
• Identifies patients in need of immediate care by visual assessment at time of registration, prioritizes registration by severity of complaint.
• Admits all surgical and direct admit patients.
• Schedules and checks in hospital outpatient lab patients.
• Identifies and selects patients using department identifiers to select correct EMR.
• Enters patient complaints/symptoms into EMR and completes all required arrival information.
• Generates patient armbands, face sheets, and patient labels.
• Verifies information before applying patient armband during traumas.
• Gathers and enters demographic, guarantor, and billing information into EPIC.
• Obtains necessary signatures and documents for inpatient and outpatient registrations.
• Verifies patient insurance information and updates as appropriate.
• Identifies patients in ER with out-of-network insurance and completes paperwork.
• Identifies patients without insurance and coordinates with financial counselors.
• Completes MSPQ for Medicare patients.
• Collects co-pays and self-pay payments.
• Assists with coordination of patients into appropriate unit.
• Provides accurate information to patients, visitors, and customers.
• Assists other departments at Mercyhealth locations to notify when patients have arrived.
• Assists EMS/EMT to arrive patients and provide billing paperwork.
• Performs Pre-admission and Pre-registration functions.
• Provides admission information and signs required Medicare forms.
• Secures and returns patient valuables per policy.
• Supports staff during EPIC downtime or disaster mode.
• Provides transportation vouchers and payment support for patients.
• Maintains cash drawer and balances at shift end.
• Resolves registration errors to ensure timely billing.
• Assesses need for interpreters and coordinates services.
• Manages inquiries by phone and outbound calls as needed.
• Monitors security and communicates with staff and patients.
• Directs patients and visitors to correct areas.
• Demonstrates teamwork across departments.
• Follows healthcare regulations and updates leadership as needed.
• Performs light cleaning of registration, lobby and waiting areas.
• Completes required education courses as assigned.
• May work alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime during peak periods.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
